Hello everyone Independent Authors came about because of meeting a self-published author. After chatting to her about the whole scene I thought why not try to help her get her first book  into the proper bookshops........So I arranged for her to do book fairs and used this as a way of getting to chat to bookshop owners and asked if we could place copies on their shelves.....I was amazed how many of these shops said yes. Next I thought I needed to get her in the writing mags, so I sent in a short 'new subscriber' piece into the Writers News Mag and luckily it was selected for the May 06 issue. We felt great but instead of many orders I was emailed by lots of self published authors about how we've managed to sell so many of her books and also get them into the shops? I thought most self-published people do this without any problems...I was wrong, many try but find it hard to get into the shops or even get regular sales. That’s when I thought I could help, so I bought the domain name Independentauthors.co.uk and started to build a website to list self published books on. It was all new and had many problems initially but I persevered. I had looked at other sites offering books for the self published and also ask people what they felt was wrong with the industry for the self published. It turned out to be pretty scary and lots of rip off POD (print on demand) companies using the desires to be published as a carrot to ask for hundreds if not thousands of pound up front to ‘market’ their books. Unfortunately many authors fall into this trap so I deliberately made Independent Authors a company that only takes a small commission AFTER I sell a book. SO here we are, still going despite many problems and upsets, we’re still selling g books and as time goes on I add more authors to my site and sell more books for most members every month, I have now started to take online payments so that’s helping sales. I have also started a new wedding car business ‘Ferrari Wedding Cars’ and have now built up a database eof over 3000 customers so I can now start to email and mailshot them to hopefully increase sales for member’s books.
